THE MOCHA STORY
The year was 1958, within the bustling suburbs of inner-city Newtown, Greek immigrants John and Irene Mannassis opened one of Australia’s largest Delicatessen, Olympos, providing traditional European foods for the huge influx of immigrants coming to Australia. Understanding the strong coffee culture amongst Europeans John Mannassis’ vision for Mocha Coffee had just been planted.
With increasing demand the operation moved to larger premises in Marrickville. At this time Mocha Coffee expanded their facility and highly qualified staff to provide in house technical expertise, including a Barista training facility, a strong sales support team and coffee consulting services such as blend development, contract roasting, coffee bar workflow and bar set up.
Mocha Coffee's growers are predominantly small scale ethical, sustainable farmers found throughout most of the world's coffee growing regions. These small scale farmers rely purely on coffee as their main source of income and take great care to ensure consistency and quality.
With grass roots experience, Mocha Coffee has thorough knowledge on the different flavour profiles of the various coffee origins and more importantly understand how to blend these exclusive coffees together to suit various customers and markets.
Mocha Coffee's expertise has placed Mr Paul Mannassis, Director and Quality Control Officer as the Chief Coffee Judge for the Sydney Royal Fine Food Show which is part of the prestigious Royal Agricultural Society of NSW.
Mocha Coffee is a proud member of the Australian Coffee Traders Association (ACTA). Established in 1940 ACTA has been the voice for the Australian coffee industry dealing with all issues affecting the coffee industry. Mr Paul Mannassis has served as a committee member of ACTA and his efforts along with others help to further develop the Australian coffee industry.
